Sometime we face brake lights…
In order to make learning truly meaningful to our students we need to show them that we will not bypass what concerns them in the moment. When we sit in traffic, we know it is only temporary and that eventually we will get to the destination we seek. When our students step on the brakes, we know that we will be able to get them to where they are going, we just may need to pause and slow down in order to make it happen. Teaching in the moment is what will help them get to the future we are trying to prepare them for.
Sometimes we face a ‘delayed’ green light…
When we base our ability and our success on what others are doing, we will always end up either disappointed or judgmental. Neither of which is beneficial.
It is through our patience, our persistence, and our passion that we will impact. Every student is different. Some students will grasp things quicker than others, yet all of them can succeed. Sometimes we simply need to take a moment to delay and wait for the green light. That delay may include collaboration with colleagues, finding new strategies to use, or simply slowing the pace down a bit to reach students. Regardless, it is important to understand that a delay is not a sign of weakness, but rather it is evidence that you are willing to do whatever it takes to make a difference in the lives of those you teach. It is evidence that YOU are an amazing teacher.
Embrace the Power of Patience…
When we are patient and we teach in the moment, we will see things that others don’t see. We will reach our students where they are, which will help prepare them to succeed where they are going.
